  1. Thank you for the info. We just moved to a 7.5 acre farm with no flowers and looking for something to beautify certain areas. This will help a lot.

  2. So discouraged here and hoping you can help me. We have 10 acres in Montana, full of alkaline and a ph of 7. Built a me home and finally after 2 years, there is some grass growing in after planting for the last two years!!?. We have full, full and again, full sun with no bushes or trees yet!! Looking for ideas for up close to the house and around what we are calling our yard. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Ronda Garcia ?

    1. Hi Ronda! The good news is that there are ways to adjust your soil’s pH to accommodate your plants. There are also several bushes, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers that thrive in full sun. If you want a nice bushy tree that produces blooms all through Summer and into Fall, you can try Crepe Myrtles. Different varieties of hostas, ferns, and sedum work great to fill in sparse areas; you can also try Walker’s Low Catmint, Lavender, and/or ornamental grasses. Stick to perennials that are labeled as full sun and those that thrive in your hardiness zone. Pairing a few perennials from this list (as long as they do well in your zone) with ground covers mentioned above will help you create a pretty garden bed. Good luck!
